Connect an AI provider

Text assistance is included in Composerie. Connect your own provider for optional paid image effects, artwork and upscaling.

Composerie AI includes dashboard questions, supportchat, product descriptions, SEO and the text/research workspace. These text features need no provider key or personal ChatGPT connection. Availability and usage limits apply; generated copy is a proposal you review before saving. If AI is unavailable, you can keep searching and editing manually or contact human support.

Paid image effects, generated artwork and remote upscaling use your own connected image-provider account. The image provider bills that account directly. Claude text credits do not pay for these image engines or audio transcription.

This guide covers choosing a provider and connecting it. For what it costs and how to cap it, read what AI generation costs.

Work out which kind you need

The hub lists a lot of cards with model names on them, which makes it look like nine competing choices. It is a shorter question than that.

Three jobs, not nine products. Connect for the ones your products actually do.

For shopper photo personalization, connect an image provider for the AI styles you want to publish. Shopper photos and your published style instructions are sent to that provider. Automatic background removal, enhancement, subject cutout and remote outline effects are not currently supported in shopper photo fields; connecting a utility provider does not enable them. Merchant editing tools are a separate workflow. See AI photo effects in the customizer.

You can generate descriptions and SEO without connecting a provider. Connect an image provider only for the image features you want to use.

Open Integrations

Open Integrations from the sidebar. The AI providers sit under Browse all integrations, which the page sets in capitals, and the AI filter narrows the list to just them.

DashboardThe Integrations hub with a search box and category filters for All, E-commerce, Fulfillment, AI, Marketing, Analytics and Productivity, above cards for Printify, Printful, MerchOne, OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Stability AI, Google Gemini, Replicate and fal.ai, each with a Connect button
The integrations hub. Each card says what that provider is good at.

Read the card before you sign up

Each card names what that provider is actually good for, and the connected view goes further with per-capability notes. Read those rather than picking the brand you have heard of: they are written for this job, and they change as the models do.

Create a key on the provider's site

Choose Connect and Composerie walks you through it. None of these offer a one-click sign-in, so the flow is: open your account on their site, create an API key, come back and paste it.

The panel links straight to the right page on the provider’s site, so you are not hunting through their dashboard.

Paste the key

Composerie validates the key with the provider before storing it, so a mistyped key is refused there and then rather than failing the first time a shopper uses it.

Keys are encrypted at rest and decrypted only to fulfil work you asked for.

Set the defaults once

A connected provider has settings worth five minutes, because they apply to every call afterwards.

Model selection sets the Default model and an optional Fallback model. The fallback is what runs when the default errors. Leaving it on None is a real choice, and the option says why: it fails fast instead of switching. For a customer-facing generation, a clear failure beats a silent switch to a model whose output looks different from what you tested.

Generation defaults cover Aspect ratio, Quality, Safety level and Seed. These apply unless a specific call overrides them. Leaving Seed blank means every run is different, which is what you want for a shopper generating their own artwork and not what you want when comparing two prompts.

The settings on connected providers apply to those optional provider tools. They do not change the model or costs of included Composerie text AI.

Cost controls are the ones to set on day one. Monthly soft cap notifies you, Monthly hard cap pauses calls, and Composerie enforces both before the request reaches the provider. There are also per-product and per-session generation limits. See what AI generation costs.

Try it before you sell it

The AI capability readiness panel on a connected provider runs a real generation against a sample or an uploaded image, with the model you choose, and shows you the result. It is the honest way to find out whether a style works on your actual product photos before a shopper meets it.

It is a real call, so it costs what a real call costs and counts toward your usage. The panel shows the approximate cost per run before you press Generate.

A style you like can be saved from the AI Style editor, and Saved AI Style presets is where you rename, review and delete them later.

If something stops working

A key can be revoked, expire, or run out of credit on the provider’s side, and Composerie finds out only when a call fails. The integration card carries the health of the connection, so check there first, then check your account on the provider’s site. The usual answers are a spent balance or a key someone rotated.
