You opened a product page and the personalization customizer is not there. This guide helps you find out why and get it showing. It is for merchants who have installed Composerie and expect customers to personalize a product on the page. Work through it in order. Most of the time the cause is the storefront mode, not a broken block.
First, know what each mode shows
Before you assume the block is broken, check which mode the product uses. The mode decides what a customer sees on the page.
Composerie has three storefront modes:
- Linked is the default. It shows no on-page customizer at all. There is no form, no button, and no extra scripts on the product page. The customer never fills in a personalization form on the page in this mode. Composerie resolves the design on the server when the order comes in. So if a product is on linked mode, an empty product page is correct, not a bug.
- Full upper PDP shows the personalization controls inline on the product page, above the normal product details.
- Full page shows a Customize button on the product page that takes the customer into a full personalization experience.
Only full upper PDP and full page put anything visible on the page. If you expected to see controls or a Customize button and the page is bare, the product is very likely on linked mode.
For a full explanation of each mode and when to use it, see storefront modes explained.
Check the block is added to the product page
The customizer is a Shopify theme block. Installing the Composerie app is not enough on its own. The block has to be added to your product template. If the block is not on the template, nothing renders, even in a visible mode.
Open the Shopify theme editor on a product template
In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store, then Themes. On your live theme, click Customize. Open a product template from the page selector at the top.
Look for the Composerie Customizer block in the product section
Check the section tree on the left. You are looking for the Composerie Customizer block inside the product section. If it is listed, the block is in place and you can move on to the next section. If it is not there, add it in the next step.
Add the block if it is missing
Click Add Block in the product section. Choose Composerie, then Customizer. The block drops in and starts working with no extra setup.
Save the theme
Click Save in the top right. The block is now part of the template.
Confirm the product has a published design and a visible mode
The block can be in place and the mode can be right, and the page can still be empty if the product itself is not set up. Two things matter here: the product needs a design linked to it, and it needs a visible mode if you want on-page controls.
Open the product in the Composerie dashboard
Go to your Composerie dashboard, open Products, and click the product. Confirm it is published and mapped to at least one design. A product with no design linked shows a placeholder box in the theme editor and nothing at all on the live storefront.
Check the product mode
Confirm the product is set to full upper PDP or full page if you expect on-page controls or a Customize button. If the mode is linked, that is why the page is bare.
Change the mode if it is wrong
If the product should show a customizer but is on linked mode, change the mode for that product to full upper PDP or full page. Save your change.

Frequently asked questions
Why is there no customizer on my product even though the app is installed?
The product is most likely on linked mode, which is the default. Linked mode shows nothing on the product page on purpose. Switch the product to full upper PDP or full page if you want on-page controls or a Customize button.
I see the customizer in the theme editor but not on the live store. Why?
Your changes are probably on an unpublished theme, or the block sits on a draft template. Publish the theme so the block goes live.
A placeholder box shows in the theme editor. What does it mean?
The product has no design linked yet. The placeholder only appears in the editor, never on the live store. Link a design to the product in the dashboard and publish it.
