Invite teammates and set their roles

Add people to your Composerie workspace, give each one a role, and change or remove access later. Covers the five roles and what each one can do.

This guide shows you how to add people to your Composerie workspace, choose what each person can do, and adjust their access later. It is for Owners and Admins who manage who gets into the account. Everyone else can still open the team page to see who is on the team, but only Owners and Admins see the controls that invite people, change roles, or remove members.

You will find everything under Settings, then Team.

What each role can do

Composerie has exactly five roles. Here they are from most access to least, with what each one can do:

  • Owner: Full access. Can manage billing and delete the organization.
  • Admin: Can manage team members (invite, remove, and change roles except owners), settings, and all content.
  • Editor: Can create and edit products, orders, and designs.
  • Fulfillment: Can view and manage orders and fulfillment only.
  • Viewer: Can view content but cannot make changes.

Only Owners and Admins can invite people, remove them, or change their roles. Editors, Fulfillment members, and Viewers can open the team page, but they see a read-only list with no management controls. The server checks the same rule on every request, so the controls are not just hidden in the interface.

You can see the full breakdown in the Role permissions section on the team page.

The Role permissions section lists Owner, Admin, Editor, Fulfillment, and Viewer with a one-line description each.

Invite a teammate

Inviting someone sends them an email with a link to join your organization. They sign in or create an account with that email to accept.

Open Settings, then Team

Sign in to your dashboard and go to Settings, then Team. You will see your current members and, if you are an Owner or Admin, an Invite member button.

Click Invite member and enter the details

Click Invite member. A panel opens. Type the person’s email address, then choose a role from the Role dropdown. The dropdown offers Admin, Editor, Fulfillment, and Viewer. Owner is not an option for invites, since there is only one Owner at a time.

The invite panel: enter an email and pick a role. Owner is not in the list.

Send the invite

Click Send invite. Composerie emails the person a link to join. The link expires after seven days. They open it, sign in or create an account with that email, and they are added to your team with the role you picked.

The invite then shows up under Pending invitations until the person accepts.

A pending invite. You can Resend or Cancel it before the person accepts.

If you invite the same email again, Composerie refreshes the existing invite instead of creating a duplicate. So if a link expired or got lost, just send another invite to the same address.

Change a role or remove someone

You can adjust a member’s role or remove them at any time from their row in the team list.

Open the member's actions menu

On the Team page, find the person in the members list. Click the actions menu on their row (the three-dot button).

The row actions menu: change the role or use Remove member.

Change the role or remove the member

Choose Change role to set a new role, or Remove member to take away their access. Removing a member asks you to confirm first.

Owner rows do not show these actions. To hand the Owner role to someone else, use Transfer ownership instead (see below).

Role changes and removals take effect right away. The new role applies the next time the person loads a page, and the server enforces it on every request, so a removed member loses access immediately.

Transfer ownership

There is one Owner at a time, and only the Owner can pass that role to someone else. The Transfer ownership section appears only when you are the Owner.

Open Transfer ownership

On the Team page, scroll to Transfer ownership. Click Transfer ownership to open the panel.

Pick the new owner and confirm

Under New owner, pick the current member who should take over. Click Send transfer request. That person gets an email and must accept before the swap takes effect. The transfer email is valid for 24 hours.

Once they accept, they become the Owner and you become an Admin.

Pick the member who will become the new Owner, then send the request.

Common questions

Can a new teammate sign in with an account they already have?

Yes. They sign in with the same email you invited, or create an account with that email if they do not have one. The invite link ties their access to that address.

How long does an invite link last?

Seven days. After that the link stops working. Send a new invite to the same email to refresh it.

Why does the team page show no management buttons for me?

Only Owners and Admins see invite, change-role, and remove controls. Editors, Fulfillment members, and Viewers see a read-only team list. Ask an Owner or Admin to change your role if you need more access.

Is there a limit on how many invites I can send?

Yes. Invite sending is rate limited to 20 invites per hour for the whole organization, and 3 per hour to a single email address. If you hit the limit, wait a moment and try again.

What happens to the old Owner after a transfer?

They become an Admin once the new Owner accepts. They keep access to the organization, just without the Owner-only abilities like billing and deleting the organization.
