This guide shows you how to start a new product from a design you already made. It is for merchants who want a new product to match the look of an existing one, without building the design again from scratch.
A template is one of your saved designs, reused as a starting point. When you create a product from a template, Composerie copies that design onto the new product so the layout, text, and graphics are already in place.
When to use a template
Reach for a template when a new product should look like one you have already designed. A template carries the design over, so you open the new product with a working layout instead of a blank canvas. That keeps your products consistent and saves the setup time.
Templates come from your saved designs. You build a design in the Design Studio, save it as a template, and it becomes available here. See the Design Studio overview for how designs are built.
The Templates option only appears once you have at least one template. On the product creation screen, the Templates card is disabled until then, and it shows a “No templates” reason. If you do not see a usable Templates card, you have no saved templates yet.
Create a product from a template
Follow these steps to turn a saved design into a new product.
Open Products, then Create, then Templates
Go to Products and select Create. On the creation screen, choose the Templates card. This opens the template chooser, where your saved designs are listed.
Find and preview a template
Use the search box to filter templates by name or product type. To check a template before you commit, select the preview (eye) button on its card. The preview opens in a modal with the design thumbnail and the product type.
Select the template and choose Use this template
Click a template card to select it. The selected card is highlighted. Then choose Use this template to confirm. You can also choose Use this template directly from the preview modal.
Open the new product in the design editor
Composerie creates the product from that design as a draft and opens it in the design editor. The template’s name is used as the starting product name, and the design is already on the canvas. From there you can edit the design and finish the product page.
Frequently asked questions
Where do templates come from?
Templates are your saved designs. You create a design in the Design Studio, save it as a template, and it becomes available in the template chooser.
Why is the Templates card greyed out?
You have no saved templates yet. The Templates option only appears once you have at least one. Create a product, save its design as a template, then it will show here.
Does using a template change the original?
No. The design is copied onto the new product. Edits to the new product leave the template and other products untouched.
Can I search my templates?
Yes. The template chooser has a search box that filters by template name and product type.
