Checkout, Thank You and Order Status

After the cart there are three more places a shopper sees what they made, and none of them run your theme's code. Knowing which surface owns which is how you fix one without touching the others.

Once a shopper leaves the cart they pass through three more surfaces, and your theme’s code runs on none of them. Composerie ships a block for each. This guide says what each one shows and which system owns it, because that is what decides where to look when one of them is blank.

Four surfaces, three owners

One journey, four surfaces, and only the first is yours to style.

At checkout

Under each personalized line, Composerie’s checkout block shows a Personalized marker, the shopper’s own preview image, and a View personalization control that opens what they chose.

Checkout is not your theme. Liquid and theme JavaScript do not run there, which is why the cart thumbnail swap and the Edit personalization link stop at the cart door. It also means a broken theme cannot break checkout, and a perfect checkout proves nothing about your cart row.

On the thank-you page

After payment, the same extension lists the order’s personalized items under the summary, headed Your personalized items, with the preview for each.

This is the last thing most shoppers look at closely, and it is worth checking once on your own test order: it is where a wrong preview would be most visible and most damaging.

In the customer account

Composerie also adds the same list to the order page inside a shopper’s Shopify customer account, so the personalization is still there weeks later when they come back to check what they ordered.

When one of them is blank

Take the surfaces one at a time rather than assuming a single cause.

The pair of symptoms is the diagnosis.
  • The cart row is right and checkout is empty. Nothing about your theme is involved. Check the app’s blocks in Shopify’s checkout editor.
  • Checkout is right and the cart row is not. The reverse: check the app embed in your theme. See troubleshoot theme placement.
  • Everything is empty. Look further back. If the line never carried its personalization, the problem is the add to cart, not the display. See product will not add to cart.

Common questions

Why does the Edit link not appear at checkout?

Checkout is a Shopify surface and your theme's code does not run there. Editing is offered in the cart only.

Can I restyle the checkout block?

Checkout styling is Shopify's, set through its own branding controls rather than through Composerie.

Does the shopper get the preview in their confirmation email?

Shopify's own order emails cannot be edited by an app. There are snippets you can paste into those templates once so each line shows the design.

The preview at checkout is the old design.

The preview belongs to the cart line as it was added. If the shopper edited in the cart and it did not update, re-add the item and report it.

Is any of this visible to me rather than the shopper?

Yes. The order page in Composerie shows the proof and the personalization for every line. See what is in an order.
