Every order in Composerie carries a status that tells you where it is in its journey, from paid to delivered. This guide explains the seven statuses, what each one means, and which steps you can take at each stage. It is for any merchant who wants to read the Orders page with confidence.
The seven order statuses
Composerie uses seven statuses. Each one marks a clear stage in the order’s life.
- Pending (amber): the order is paid but work has not started yet. This is where a new order lands.
- Processing (blue): the personalized product is being made. Work is underway.
- Fulfilled (green): the item is made and ready to leave.
- Shipped (violet): the order is on its way, with tracking attached.
- Delivered (green): the order has arrived with the customer.
- Cancelled (red): the order was stopped and will not be made or sent.
- Refunded (coral): the customer was paid back.
Each status shows as a colored pill next to the order number, so you can spot the stage at a glance from anywhere in the dashboard. Open any order to see its pill in the header.
If you print and ship orders yourself, the Fulfilled status reads as Printed, ready to ship instead. There is no print provider to hand the order to, so the label describes what you have actually done: the item is printed and waiting to go out.
How statuses move forward
Statuses only move forward, never backward. You cannot send a Shipped order back to Pending. This keeps the order history honest and matches what the customer has already been told.
Because of that, the dashboard never asks you to pick from a long list. It offers the single next valid step. The primary button in the order header always shows that one move:
- Pending can go to Processing or to Fulfilled.
- Processing goes to Fulfilled.
- Fulfilled goes to Shipped.
- Shipped goes to Delivered.
Cancelled and Refunded are end states. Once an order reaches either one, it does not move on. You reach them from the More menu in the order header rather than the main button.
So a fulfilled order shows a Mark shipped button, and a shipped order shows Mark delivered. Click the button to advance the order one step.
Order status versus fulfillment status
There are two status fields, and they answer different questions.
The order status is the overall stage: the seven values above. It is the headline.
The fulfillment status describes only the print side: where the file is in production. You may see values like submitted, in production, print ready, shipped, failed, and needs attention. This detail matters most for orders sent to a print provider, where the provider reports progress back to Composerie.
Most of the time the two move together and you only need to watch the order status. The exception is when the fulfillment status reads failed or needs attention. That is your signal to step in: the provider could not accept the order, or something about the print file needs a look. When you see either value, read handle fulfillment errors for what to check and how to retry.
Can I move an order back to a previous status?
No. Statuses move forward only. If an order advanced by mistake, cancel or refund it from the More menu instead.
What does Printed, ready to ship mean?
It is the Fulfilled status for a self-print order. The item is made and waiting for you to post it, since there is no provider to send it to.
Why does my order say Shipped but the fulfillment status says failed?
The two fields track different things. A failed fulfillment status means the print side hit a problem, so check the fulfillment errors guide even when the order status looks fine.
