Install the Composerie app on your Shopify store

Install Composerie from the App Store, approve the access it asks for, and connect your store so your products and orders sync.

This guide walks you through installing Composerie on your Shopify store. It is for store owners and staff who are setting up Composerie for the first time. By the end, your store will be connected and ready for you to build personalizable products.

Before you start

You need two things to begin: a Shopify store and a Composerie account. If you have not created your account yet, start with connect your Shopify store, which covers the first sign-up.

Installing Composerie is free. You can build products and preview them in your store before you pick a plan, so nothing here commits you to a subscription.

You install Composerie once per store. The same app handles your onboarding in the dashboard and the live customizer your shoppers see, so there is no second install to worry about later.

Install and approve access

Installing connects your store to Composerie through Shopify’s standard approval flow. You open the listing, review the access Composerie requests, and approve it. Shopify then sends you back to the Composerie dashboard with your store connected.

Open the Composerie listing and click Install

Open the Composerie App Store listing and click Install. If you started from the Composerie dashboard, you can follow the connect-store link in onboarding instead. Both routes lead to the same Shopify approval screen.

Review the access Composerie requests

Shopify shows an access request screen that lists what Composerie can read and write. This includes your products, orders, customers, themes, content, and fulfillment. Read through the list so you know what each permission is for before you approve.

Shopify lists every permission Composerie requests before you approve.

Click Install app to grant access

Click Install app to approve. Composerie needs theme read and write access so it can place the customizer in your storefront. It needs order and fulfillment access so it can receive your orders and route them to a print provider. These are the permissions that make personalized products and automatic fulfillment work.

Land back in the Composerie dashboard

After you approve, Shopify sends you back to Composerie. Your store is now connected, and you will see it listed in the dashboard with its shop domain. The Composerie dashboard lives at app.composerie.com, in its own tab rather than inside the Shopify admin.

Your connected store appears with its shop domain once install finishes.

What happens if your store is already connected

If your store already belongs to a Composerie account, the install does not create a second connection. Instead, Composerie sends you to the login screen so you can sign in to the account that already owns the store. This protects your existing setup from being overwritten by a stranger’s install.

Re-installing while you are logged in re-binds the store to your existing account. This is the normal way to refresh a connection or update the access Composerie holds.

If you land on the login screen with an error like invalid_shop or invalid_hmac, the install link was malformed or changed in transit. Composerie checks every install link before it starts, and a failed check stops the flow on purpose. Start again from the App Store listing with a fresh link.

Do I need to install Composerie inside the Shopify admin?

No. Composerie runs in its own dashboard at app.composerie.com, not embedded inside the Shopify admin. You install through Shopify's approval flow, then work in the Composerie dashboard.

Is installing free?

Yes. You can install, build products, and preview them before choosing a plan. Installing does not start a subscription.

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

When you uninstall from Shopify, Shopify notifies Composerie so it can clean up the connection on its side.

I got an invalid_shop or invalid_hmac message. What does that mean?

The install link was malformed or tampered with, so Composerie stopped the flow. Go back to the App Store listing and start the install again with a fresh link.

If you get stuck at any point, contact support and we will help you finish connecting.
