Add Product Images and Mockups

Upload the photos shoppers see on your storefront, set alt text and titles, and open the Mockup Studio to place your design on a product mockup.

This guide shows you how to add the images shoppers see on your storefront and how to place your design on a product mockup. It is for anyone setting up a product in Composerie and getting it ready to publish.

Why product images matter

Product images are the photos a shopper sees on your storefront before they personalize anything. They come from two places: the synced preview of your design, and any mockup images you add. Each image is stored with its own alt text and title.

Your storefront listing needs at least one image. Composerie checks this on the publish checklist in the right rail of the product page. Until you add an image, the checklist shows “Mockups uploaded” as not done, with the note “At least 1 image required”. The whole product cannot publish until that item passes.

Each image can carry two pieces of text:

  • Alt text describes the image for screen readers and search engines. Good alt text reads like a short sentence, for example “Navy ceramic mug with a hand-lettered name on the front”.
  • A title is a short label for the image, stored alongside it.

The first product mockup does extra work. Composerie uses it as your default social-share image: the picture that shows up when someone shares your product link on social media. If you do not set a custom social image, this first mockup fills that role. You can set a custom one later from SEO and storefront listing.

The product gallery: the first mockup acts as the cover and the default social-share image.

Open the Mockup Studio

The Mockup Studio is a full-screen editor where you place your design onto a product mockup, for example your artwork shown on a t-shirt or a tote bag. Once you save, the result becomes a product image.

Start from the publish checklist or the product page

Open the product you want to work on. In the right rail, find the Publish checklist card. The “Mockups uploaded” row has an Upload link when no image exists yet. Click it to open the Mockup Studio. You can also reach it from the product page itself.

Let the Mockup Studio open

The Upload link points to /products/<id>/mockups, where <id> is your product’s ID. Composerie opens the Mockup Studio as a full-screen editor, separate from the normal dashboard chrome so you have room to work.

Place your design on the mockup

Position your design on the product mockup so it sits where you want it on the product. When the placement looks right, save your work. The composited image is added to your product’s gallery.

Set alt text and titles

Give each image clear alt text and a title. This is the same alt text and title described above, and it is what search engines and screen readers read. Write a short, plain description of what the image shows.

Common questions

How many images does a product need to publish?

At least one. The publish checklist flags the Mockups uploaded item until you add one image, and the product cannot publish until it passes.

Where does the first mockup show up besides the gallery?

Composerie uses the first product mockup as the default social-share image when you have not set a custom one. You can override it from the SEO and storefront listing settings.

What is the difference between alt text and a title?

Alt text is the description read by screen readers and search engines. The title is a short label stored alongside the image. Both are saved per image.

Where do product images come from?

From the synced preview of your design and from the mockups you add in the Mockup Studio. Each image keeps its own alt text and title.
