This guide walks you through the Composerie setup wizard and the checklist that picks up where the wizard leaves off. It explains which individual steps you can defer, which step is required, and what must happen before Composerie considers onboarding complete.
The six wizard steps
The onboarding wizard takes you through six steps, then shows a handoff screen that says your core setup is ready. You move forward one step at a time, and a step indicator at the top tracks where you are. Reaching the handoff screen means you have reached the end of the wizard; it does not complete onboarding by itself.
Here is what each step covers:
- Welcome. A quick look at what you will build with Composerie.
- Connect Platform. Link your Shopify store so orders and products stay in sync. See connect your Shopify store for the full flow.
- Shopify Theme Setup. Switch the customizer on in your live theme so shoppers can personalize products. This step only appears when a store is connected. The walkthrough lives in switch on the customizer in your theme.
- POD Provider. Connect a supported print provider, then configure and test the product mapping before using provider handoff for live orders.
- Billing. A connected Shopify store uses Shopify-hosted plan approval. If no Shopify store is connected yet, Billing routes you back to the Connect step. This is the one step you cannot skip (more on that below).
- First Product. Choose how to start your first personalizable product. This hands you to product creation; the product still needs to be published. The full guide is your first personalizable product.
The step indicator in the top bar fills in as you go, so you can always see how far along you are.
Skipping and coming back
You do not have to finish every step in one sitting. Most steps have a Skip this step or Skip for now control, so you can defer that one step and come back later.
When you confirm a skip, Composerie marks only the current step as skipped and moves you to the next reachable step. It does not skip the remaining wizard, mark the skipped step complete, or mark onboarding complete.
There is one exception. Billing cannot be skipped, so the wizard does not show a skip control on that step. For a connected Shopify store, plan approval happens on Shopify’s hosted billing surface, where Shopify shows the subscription terms before you approve. If you have not connected a Shopify store yet, Billing sends you back to the Connect step rather than opening a different payment flow. For more, see approve Shopify billing.
Skipping does not lose your progress. Deferred setup stays available from the dashboard checklist, Integrations, and the main navigation. A skipped wizard step remains skipped; it is not silently counted as completed.
When onboarding is actually complete
After the wizard handoff, create and publish your first real product. Composerie marks onboarding complete only after the server verifies that the first real publication succeeded.
Opening product creation, saving a draft, choosing a starting method, or reaching the core-setup handoff screen does not count as completion. If publication fails, onboarding remains incomplete so the dashboard can keep guiding you to the required next action.
The dashboard setup checklist
The setup checklist lives in the right column of your dashboard home. It is separate from the wizard and tracks five account tasks that round out your setup.
The five tasks are:
- Publish a product. Get your first personalizable product live on your storefront. See publish a product to your storefront.
- Connect a print provider. Link a supported provider, then verify its credentials and product mappings. See connect a provider.
- Invite a teammate. Open the invite panel and add someone to your workspace. See manage your team and roles.
- Upload your logo. Add your brand logo in your workspace settings. See workspace settings.
- Customize your brand colors. Set your brand colors so the customizer matches your store.
The checklist shows progress as a count of how many tasks are done out of the total, with a row of dots above it. It highlights the next task you should tackle and gives each unfinished task a quick action to jump straight to it.
When all five tasks are done, the checklist collapses into a short success message. You can dismiss the checklist at any time using the close control in its top corner, whether or not every task is complete.
Is the dashboard checklist the same as the wizard steps?
No. The wizard has six setup steps. The dashboard checklist tracks five account tasks that finish rounding out your setup, like uploading your logo and inviting a teammate.
Can I get the checklist back after I dismiss it?
Dismissing hides the checklist for that account. The features it points to stay available from the main navigation, so you can still publish a product, connect a provider, or set your brand colors directly.
Why can I not skip the Billing step?
Billing creates the required subscription entitlement. A connected Shopify store uses Shopify-hosted approval; without a connected Shopify store, the wizard routes you back to the Connect step. The wizard does not show a skip control on Billing.
Does the core-setup screen mean onboarding is complete?
No. It means you reached the end of the wizard. Composerie completes onboarding only after the server verifies your first real product publication.
